The Accounting Career Awareness Program of the San Francisco Bay Area (ACAP) honors and celebrates the exceptional life and legacy of one of our co-founders, friend, and faithful servant, Barbara Williams.

Barbara was appointed as the first ever Executive Director of ACAP and has impacted the lives of over 300 high school students throughout her 10-year tenure. After her time as the Executive Director, she continued to serve as an advisor to the ACAP board while creating a legacy that has allowed the ACAP SF program to exist to this day.

Barbara’s love and commitment to ACAP stemmed from your early involvement in helping to establish the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) in the late 1960s in New York, NY. From her part in helping the start of NABA, in the 70s, 80s and 90s she served in leadership roles with NABA in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

After a successful professional career in accounting, she continued to diversify the accounting profession by impacting and contributing to the many lives of future accountants as an accounting professor at Contra Costa College and other colleges across the Bay Area.

The entire ACAP family is mourning over the loss of our leader and visionary.  We also celebrate her incredible contribution to our program and profession. In the summer of 2022, ACAP launched the first Barbara Williams Scholarship Award, which is automatically awarded to all ACAP program summer participants who subsequently enroll in college. In lieu of flowers, the family of Barbara Williams has requested that those who wish to celebrate her life instead donate to the scholarship fund. Celebrations of her life can be made at
www.acapsf.org.

While Barbara is no longer with us ACAP will forever send our love and condolences to those affected by the loss of our beloved, Barbara Williams.
